A very short bit about myself.

I am currently a student at River Falls High School in River Falls, WI, where I enthusiastically participate in multiple ensembles as a trumpet player. Beyond performing, I dedicate my free time to composing music, a passion that truly drives me. I recognize that I am on a continuous journey of learning and skill development. While I may not have a dramatic life story, I am deeply committed to expressing myself through my compositions and other musical pursuits. I hope my work resonates with you and brings enjoyment! With a genuine love for music as my guiding force, I explore various genres and styles in my compositions, each piece offering a glimpse into my creative journey. Question Mark Suite - Wind Band/Concert Band

The Question Mark Suite by Ben Jaeckel is a deeply personal exploration of life's emotional journey, rooted in moments of longing, confusion, and desire. The first movement reflects the overwhelming rush of emotions when we encounter something powerful for the first time. The brass sections, with raw intensity and extreme trumpet ranges, capture the beautiful yet unreachable feelings of wanting, while the percussion adds a restless energy. The second movement shifts to a more playful and rhythmic tone, expressing a lighter joy that comes from discovering something new, but also recognizing that not all desires are meant to be realized. The mixed meters create a sense of freedom, but beneath the surface lies a bittersweet understanding that life, like music, is filled with ups and downs. The third movement reflects a time of personal isolation and the yearning for connection. It’s written with more soloistic passages, allowing space for introspection and self-expression, as the performer searches for clarity through fragmented sound. This movement is about longing for understanding, with no clear resolution—just a sense of searching for something elusive. The fourth movement is where the suite comes full circle. After struggling to find inspiration, I had found new creative energy in a close-knit group of friends, which brought a sense of joy and fresh perspective. This final movement incorporates fun, spontaneous moments, like quirky time signature changes, reflecting the playful, sometimes cringe-worthy experiences shared with friends. It’s a culmination of the emotional journey, where the piece comes back to the beginning but with new understanding. The suite ends with a literal period, symbolizing the completion of the circle—reflecting life’s constant ebb and flow, from uncertainty to resolution. The Question Mark Suite is not just about the emotions that shape us, but also about the people and experiences that guide us along the way. It’s a reflection of personal growth, of finding meaning through struggle, and ultimately, of life coming full circle.
