Grade 3.5 - The Night The Moon Fell is a piece resembling what it would be like if the Moon had fallen out of the sky and was no longer visible. We see in the beginning with the repeating ostinato pattern that it creates a sense of uneasiness, until the brass comes sweeping in with their powerful melody. We later own hear a melody similar to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, that gives us the feeling of the dissipating moon. And then comes a new melody, one that I imagine is myself standing on a hill watching as the moon falls. And once the moon finally falls chaos fallows.  This piece of music is a challenging but fun piece for intermediate musicians who are comfortable with their instruments. This piece includes teaching points for ensembles who are looking to take the next step in their musical journey. Whether it be teaching a 3:2 hemiola, or ABACA form. Your band is sure to love this.
